Who are we?

Esther: "Most of my working days are spent behind a computer or in a meeting. At EBP I have the task to help the Swiss government and Swiss companies to sustain a safe public environment. At the end of the day I am ready to start enjoying the outdoor. Outdoor sports have always interested me. At a young age I started riding horses and sailing boats, currently I find that too passive. Nowadays you will regularly find me riding my racing or mountainbike, running in the hills, exploring (with) my kajak, climbing walls or enjoying the snow".

"Seven years ago I was introduced to adventure racing. A new world opened up for me. Being a fast runner and biker is of course paramount. Nevertheless, sound navigation can enable you score better than physically stronger teams. Inga and me are the perfect combination: humour, perseverance, commitment and the will to go further. Adventure racing gave me a new way of living and looking at the world. And although we are currently not able to race together, we will keep in shape and wait for better times!"

Inga:Yes, good question: who am I...? Still trying to figure out I guess. Life has too much to offer to make a choice when still being ‘young’, isn’t it?!

Currently I work for Doctors without Borders (MSF) as a Technical Logistician which means that I am responsible to do everything the doctors can’t: construct & maintain buildings, maintain & repair cars, fix computer problems, arrange transport of people and goods, etc etc etc.

I recently finished my first mission in Ethiopia, in the horn of Africa, and it was a great, great experience! For this reason I will return to the same country beginning of October to enter my second mission for this organisation. The combination of technical aspects with the humanitarian context is a wonderful challenge. It gives a unique insight in the beauty of different cultures as well as the struggles they have to face in life.

Unfortunately, doing this work does not go well together with any regular physical exercise (except for soccer on Sunday of course) which means that Adventure Racing is a bit on hold for me at the moment. Luckily, I carry the adventure race virus in/with me and can’t wait to start again as soon as I return somewhere beginning of 2011. “Aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben” as my German friends would say.

See you soon!!
